SEARCH ENGINES AND DIRECTORIES

A search engine searches the Web for sites that have your search terms in them. No one search engine can search the entire WWW at once, so try more than one if you don’t find what you’re looking for right away. Remember to evaluate the sites you find using the guidelines for evaluating Web sites checklist.

Recommended Search Engines

Directories

A directory contains links to Web sites that have been actually reviewed by people. This means that these sites have been reviewed for content accuracy and helpfulness. You won’t have as many sites to choose from when using a directory, but you may find a useful site more quickly and easily. Remember to evaluate the Web sites you find even if you are using a directory!
